Graduation

In order for a student to graduate, dependent upon the type of diploma, the following credits are required.  If there are any questions, feel free to contact us.

Graduation Requirements:  28 Credits

MATHEMATICS (4)

  • 4 Credits (Students must be enrolled in a mathematics course each school year.)
    • 1 Credit = Algebra 1
    • 1 Credit = Geometry
    • 1 Credit = Algebra 2
    • 1 Credit = Higher Level Math Course

ENGLISH/LANGUAGE ARTS (4)

  • 4 Credits
    • 1 Credit = English 1
    • 1 Credit = English 2
    • 1 Credit = English 3
    • 1 Credit = English 4

SCIENCE (3)

  • 3 Credits
    • 1 Credit = Biology
    • 1 Credit = Physics or Chemistry (Chemistry for 2015-2016 Freshman and Later)
    • 1 Credit = an additional Lab Course)

SOCIAL STUDIES (4)

  • 4 Credits
    • 1 Credit = World History & Geography (18th century to modern time)
    • 1 Credit = U.S. History & Geography (Colonization to Reconstruction)
    • 1 Credit = U.S. Government & Civics
    • 1 Credit = Economics/Personal Finance

FOREIGN LANGUAGE (2)

  • 2 Credits (same language)
    • May be waived for students not going to a University to expand/enhance the elective focus

FINE ARTS (1)

  • 1 Credit
    • May be waived for students not going to a University to expand/enhance the elective focus

PHYSICAL EDUCATION and WELLNESS (2)

  • 2 Credits
    • 1 Credit = Wellness
    • 5 Credits = Physical Education (or Equivalent)

ELECTIVES (8)

  • 8 Credits
    • 3 of these must meet “Program of Study” requirements in one of the areas below
      • Math & Science
      • Career & Technical Education
      • Fine Arts
      • Humanities
      • Advanced Placement (AP)
      • International Baccalaureate (IB)

End-Of-Course (EOC) & Other Required Exams:

  • Language Arts:  English 1 (EOC) & English 2 (EOC)
  • Mathematics:  Algebra 1 (EOC) & Geometry (EOC) & Algebra 2 (EOC)
  • Science:  Biology (EOC)
  • Social Studies:  US History/Geography (EOC) & US Government/Civics (CIVICS Citizenship Exam)

Tennessee State Board of Education (SBE) High School Policy 2.103(1)(e) states, “A public high school student may complete an early high school graduation program and be eligible for unconditional entry into a public two-year institution of higher education or conditional entry into a public four-year institution of higher education, if the student meets the requirements of T.C.A. § 49-6-8303,” also known as the Move on When Ready Act. Students, who are interested in graduating significantly early through the Move on When Ready program, must complete this intent form available from the department of education.
